  • Announcement: Julian McDaniel (P&I Organizer) is Organizing Manufacturing Sites
    Updated On: Sep 11, 2025

Calling All Electrical Manufacturing Workers in Local 342’s Jurisdiction

Are you working in manufacturing (specifically, electrical manufacturing, but IBEW can represent any manfuaturing workers!) and ready to take the next step toward fairness, respect, and a stronger voice on the job? You workers sacrifice so much time away from family and friends for a company that makes hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars, while they pay you crumbs!

Julian, the non-construction organizer with IBEW Local 342, is here to help you organize and win the union contract you deserve.

When you take a job, the only contract you sign is the one put together entirely by the company. Those are your terms of employment. Don't like it? Then they will tell you to kick rocks!

When you unionize, your employer MUST bargain with the employees - you, the union - a union contract. A union contract, or a collective bargaining agreement, becomes your new employee handbook/contract.

A union contract allows workers to have a say in how the jobsite is run, what your benefits are, what your pay is, etc.

Remember: union employees make on average 20% more and have benefits that allow you to raise your family comfortably. A union contract also allows you to make a career out of your jobsite. IN FACT, and companies hate to admit this, but companies become more productive and save costs when workers are unionized. Unionized employees wind up staying with the company longer, they feel more of an attachment to the jobsite, and productivity increases.

The IBEW Represents More Than Construction Workers

When most people think of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, they think of construction. But the IBEW represents all workers across the electrical industry. We call this Professional and Industrial (P&I) organizing.

Electrical manufacturing workers across the country at Siemens, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Hubbell, and more are already represented by the IBEW. You can be too.

    Your Right to Organize

It is your federally protected right to organize a union at your jobsite. Employers may try to scare you or spread misinformation, but the law is clear: workers have the right to form and join unions.

You don’t have to do it alone. Local 342 has an organizer dedicated to helping you every step of the way:

    How the Process Works

Organizing a union is a process, and we’ll guide you through it step by step:

    1. Reach out to Julian – Start the conversation.

    2. Schedule a meeting – We’ll meet any day, any time. This is your chance to ask questions and learn what being union means.

    3. Build a volunteer organizing committee – A group of leaders from your workplace who will help move things forward.

    4. Create a worker list – First and last names, emails, and phone numbers for every worker on the jobsite.

    5. Hold monthly committee meetings – To plan, strategize, and lead the effort.

    6. Talk with coworkers one-on-one – Invite them to worker informational meetings and answer questions.

    7. Grow the committee – Bring more supporters into leadership roles.

    8. Sign authorization cards – Legally, 30% of workers must sign to petition, but we aim for at least 60% before moving forward.

    9. Petition for an election with the NLRB – This is when the company often begins its union-busting campaign. We fight back with unity, rallies, and support from the community.

    10. Vote in your union election – 50% +1 of eligible workers voting “yes” wins.

    11. Negotiate your contract – Once you win, the company is required by law to bargain in good faith with your union.

    Why Organize?
